Club News:
As 2012 moves toward a change in season, California Sierra Keeshond club introduces its new website column, simply titled "Club News". It will feature the latest goings-on of the club and its membership and friends each month.
I had originally planned to have the first column available to you at the end of August and now find myself "putting it to computer" as September is slipping away from us. Initial feelings of guilt gave way to the attitude that perhaps that was for a reason. The story that is of most importance had the beginning of its end in August.
Our good friend, Kym Ghione, fell gravely ill and after spending weeks in the hospital, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012. As many know, she had been waiting for a pancreas/kidney transplant for a long while and suffered injuries when her car, in which she was driving, was struck from behind by a speeding vehicle. Her struggles with the slow recovery process adversely affected her availability for a potential transplant but her pluckiness and positive attitude gave cause to wonder who is giving strength to whom? She will be sorely missed.
Donations can be sent to Barb Ryan to be donated to "Take The Lead" organization in memory of Kym.
News from the show rings around Northern California, Nevada and Colorado: Terri Gum had a stunning weekend in Greeley, CO recently by winning Non-Sporting Group 1 and Reserve Best in Show with her Gabriel son, Bear. Liz McKnight won WD/BOW with Dillon at the Rocky Mtn. Keeshond Club specialty. Gabriel's daughter, Liesl, won WB/BOS and a Non Sporting BBE Group 1 and half brother, Moby, won Select awards at the Reno Kennel Club shows. This is the show news I have available at this time.
CSKC has new brochures available that highlight the Keeshond thanks to the generous work of Mary Ward. These informational and pictorial pamphlets can be handed out by our membership at dog shows, matches, Meet the Breeds, training classes, etc. Thank you, Mary!
Speaking of Meet the Breeds, CSKC is looking forward to participating in the Sacramento Council of Dog Clubs' Breeders Showcase on Nov. 18, 2012 at its new venue at the Fountains in Roseville. More information to follow.
Until next time,
Yours in Kees,
Marty
